TIA Issues Call for Interest on New Project for Enhancements to SMS-to-9-1-1
Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.
Arlington VA. (February 23, 2015) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-45.8 Engineering Committee on Core Networks - Mobile and Personal Communications Standards has issued a call for interest for document J-STD-110.v2 initially titled Enhancements to SMS-to-9-1-1. TR-45.8 is developing guidelines to address the business needs for enhancements to the existing SMS-to-911 service as defined by J-STD-110, J-STD-110.a, and J-STD-110.01. J-STD-100.v2 will add the capability of sending the text portion of MMS messages, in addition to SMS, to the 911 service. High-priority items will be identified and may result in updates to ease the operation of the service. e.g., automated or electronic suspend/resume capability between Public Safety Answering Points PSAP9(s) and the Text Control Center TCC(s).
The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Telecom vendors and operators.
TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
