TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard, Type MPO (Multi-fiber Push On), TIA-604-5-E
Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.
Arlington VA. (April 16, 2015) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.13 Engineering Committee on Passive Optical Devices and Fiber Optic Metrology has issued a call for interest for document TIA-604-5-E initially titled Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard, Type MPO (Multi-fiber Push On), TIA-604-5-E. TR-42.13 is a project that will revise the existing MPO FOCIS specification, TIA-604-5-D, to create TIA-604-5-E. The revision will include the addition of active device receptacles and up-angled male and female plugs. The MPO connector is in wide use in support of structured cabling and parallel applications like IEEE 802.3 Ethernet. IEC 86B has recently revised its MPO connector internateability standard, IEC 60754-7-1ed.1, with new components and plug variants such as device receptacles and up-angled plugs. By comparison the TIA MPO standard is now obsolete.
The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Applications standards bodies such as IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) and INCITS T11 (Fibre Channel); equipment providers of switching, storage, server and computing gear; component providers of optical transceivers, fiber and cabling; structured cabling standards bodies such as TIA TR-42; test equipment providers; installers and users of multimode cabling.
TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at standards@tiaonline.org.
A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
