TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Requirements for Battery-Powered, Portable Land Mobile Radio Applications in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classified) Locations

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (December 11, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-8.21 Engineering Committee on Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Intrinsic Safety(IS) Consideration has issued a call for interest for document TIA-4950-A-1 initially titled Requirements for Battery-Powered, Portable Land Mobile Radio Applications in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classified) Locations. TR-8.21 is developing guidelines for the active application of the existing revision. This project identifies opportunities to add supplementary clarifications in some areas of the standalone set of intrinsic safety requirements that address issues unique to portable devices which are likely powered by primary or secondary battery cells, required to operate for extended duty periods, in both classified and non-classified environments between cell replacements or recharging.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Equipment manufacturers, end-users and others involved in Land Mobile Radio Intrinsic Safety of portable devices.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
