TIA Issues Call for Interest on Three New Standardization Projects for Telecommunications Infrastructure
Arlington, VA (April 13, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, has launched three a new projects addressing Educational Facilities, Intelligent Building Systems and Residential Facilities. These are:
ANSI/TIA-4966-1 -Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Educational Facilities, Addendum 1: Updated References, Accommodation of New Media Types
ANSI/TIA-862-B-1 -Structured Cabling Infrastructure Standard for Intelligent Building Systems, Addendum 1: Updated References, Accommodation of New Media Types
ANSI/TIA-570-D -Residential Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard
The first two, which are addenda, will add to the Educational Facilities and Intelligent Building Systems standards Cat 8, OM4 & OM5 cable types to the requirements defined in the standards.
TIA-570-D, addresses telecommunications premises cabling systems and the related pathways and spaces for single- and multi-dwelling residential buildings. It applies to the telecommunications cabling within or between structures and includes the cabling within a single-dwelling unit and the backbone cabling for multi-tenant buildings. The cabling systems support a wide range of telecommunications applications in the residential environment including voice, data, video, security, audio, and control systems.
TIA is actively seeking participation on these projects from the user and general interest communities. Stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Designers; installers; building owners; and building tenants.
These standards were formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Committee. For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at standards@tiaonline.org.
