TIA issues New Guidelines for the Use of Installed Cabling to Support 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T Standard
Arlington, VA (January 16, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, today released a new document, TSB-5021, Guidelines for the Use of Installed Category 5e and Category 6 Cabling to Support 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T. These guidelines contain recommendations to further characterize already installed category 5e and category 6 cabling as specified in ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 for support of 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T applications. This TSB also includes visual inspection procedures and field test guidelines that can be used for this assessment. In addition to the generic guidelines in the bulletin, the cabling manufacturer should be consulted regarding the capability of their category 5e and 6 cabling components to support either 2.5GBASE-T or 5GBASE-T.
TSB-5021 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems, TR-42.7 Telecommunications Copper Cabling Systems (568) subcommittee.
