TIA Issues New Project 25 Tier 1 Location Services Specification Standard
Arlington, VA (November 13, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, has released a new document, TIA-102.BAJB-A Project 25 Tier 1 Location Services Specification.
TIA-102.BAJB-A specifies requirements for telecommunications infrastructure for the Tier 1 Location Service- it provides a simple SU-to-SU interface for the Direct Data and Repeated Data configurations. It utilizes a dedicated Service Access Point over the Common Air Interface to transport location information formatted as described in NMEA 0183, a commonly used location protocol. This service is appropriate for real-time field incident applications where the Location Service Host is resident on a portable device. It does not provide a mechanism to give location information to a host device on a fixed network and does not support more advanced configuration of triggering and reporting.
TIA-102.BAJB-A was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8 Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards, TR-8.5 Signaling and Data Transmission subcommittee.
For more information about TR-8 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova at standards@tiaonline.org.
TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
