TIA Issues New Structured Cabling Infrastructure Guidelines to Support Distributed Antenna Systems Standard

Arlington, VA (July 20, 2016) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, today released a new document, TSB-5018 Structured Cabling Infrastructure Guidelines to support Distributed Antenna Systems.

TSB-5018 specifies recommendations for Distributed Antenna System (DAS) cabling infrastructure, including cabling topology, architecture, design and installation practices, test procedures, and components. A significant number of fire jurisdictions in North America have adopted standards for in-building public-safety Radio-Enhancement Systems (RES) to ensure adequate in-building radio coverage for public-safety personnel during situations requiring a response by emergency personnel. DAS is also recommended to increase the signals where building components can act as a barrier for cellular communication.

TSB-5018 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems, TR-42.1 Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling subcommittee.

TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities. For more information about TIA’s Engineering Committee TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at standards@tiaonline.org.
