TIA issues New Telecommunications - Communications Products - Transmission Requirements for Digital Interface Communications Devices with Speakerphone Standard
Arlington, VA (February 8, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, today released a new document, TIA-920.120-B, Transmission Requirements for Digital Interface Communications Devices with Speakerphones. This standard establishes audio transmission performance requirements for speakerphone devices that function as narrowband (300 to 3400 Hz) or wideband (100 to 7000 Hz)1 digital interface communications devices, or both. Transmission may be over any digital interface including Local or Wide Area Networks, Firewire/IEEE Std 1394, Universal Serial Bus (USB), public ISDN or digital over twisted pair wire. This includes TDM-based and packet-based (e.g. VoIP) devices. These devices may be connected through modems, voice gateways, wireless access points, or PBXs, or they may be personal computer based communications devices.
This revision will add updated requirements for narrowband (300 to 3400 Hz) telephones with speakerphones, previously found in ANSI/TIA-810-B, to the existing wideband (150 to 6800 Hz) requirements in TIA-920.120-A and upgrade the document to an ANSI status. It will also include the option of using send and receive levels as a measure of transmission performance instead of the more traditional send and receive loudness ratings.
TIA-920.120-B was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-41 Performance and Accessibility for Communications Products, TR-41.3 Analog and Digital Wireline Terminals subcommittee.
