TIA issues Updated Telephone Terminal Equipment Measurement Guidelines
for U.S. Network Protection
Arlington, VA (November 18, 2016) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks that develops voluntary standards for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, today released a new Telecommunications Systems Bulletin, TSB-31-D-4 Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment - Rationale and Measurement Guidelines for U.S. Network Protection - Addendum 4.
TSB-31-D-4 specifies requirements for telecommunications infrastructure and provides changes to the documents previous version, TSB-31-D. Addendum 4 was developed to clarify grounding requirements for longitudinal voltage measurements, to remove the test procedures and REN calculation information for Type B ringing in conjunction with the changes being made within latest addendum to ANSI/TIA-968-B, and to add DSL FAST measurement procedures. The new standard removes the testing requirements for AC and DC impedance during ring when applying the Type B ring frequencies and voltages. The other clauses and sub-clauses in TSB-31-D are not affected.
TSB-31-D-4 was developed under the guidance of the TIA’s Engineering Committee TR-41 for Performance and Accessibility for Communications Products, and subcommittee TR-41.9 for Technical and Administrative Regulatory Considerations.
TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities. For more information about TIA’s Engineering Committee TR-41 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova at standards@tiaonline.org.
