TIA Opens new Project for Fiber Optic Type MPO and Updates Two Cabling Infrastructure Standards

Arlington, VA (November 27, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.13 Engineering Committee on Passive Optical Devices and Fiber Optic Metrology has issued a call for interest for document TIA-604-5-F initially titled "FOCIS 5 Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard- Type MPO". The project will revise the existing FOCIS-5 standard to harmonize it with the IEC equivalent documents. The changes are minimal and mostly edits that will allow the document to be in complete harmony with its IEC sister document 61754-7. Technical changes include ferrule orientation options, ferrule travel, contact force and minor upgrades to spring compression definition. Stakeholders interested in participating in this effort may include, but are not limited to: Telecommunications industry members, data center operators, data communications cable manufacturers and connector manufacturers.

TIA has also published two new documents, ANSI/TIA-4966-1, Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Educational Facilities, Addendum 1: Updated References, Accommodation of New Media Types and ANSI/TIA-862-B-1, Structured Cabling Infrastructure Standard for Intelligent Building Systems, Addendum 1: Updated References, Accommodation of New Media Types. Both of these addendums are adding new cable types to the well-defined structured cabling for schools and smart buildings.
