TR-51 Smart Utility Networks Engineering Committee Announces Revision Projects and New Working Group
Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.
Arlington VA. (August 10, 2015) – During the TR-51 Smart Utility Networks committee meeting held on July 17th 2015, in conjunction with IEEE 802 in Waikoloa HI, TR-51 the committee members voted to approve five new revision projects for the ANSI/TIA-4957 series and initiate a Working Group to start the revision process.
The ANSI/TIA-4957 series of standards, originally published in 2012, addressed specifications and requirements for Smart Utility Networks. The standard series serves as a complete solution to the data transport problem of connecting an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to the utility infrastructure. Revision to the ANSI/TIA-4957 series will add new operational modes for Smart Grid, smart metering and related applications.
Revision work on the ANSI/TIA-4957 series will be done in the TR-51 Working Group 3 (WG3) Network Layer.
The Scope of WG3 is as follows: This working group is planning to finalize a complete OSI Layer 1 to 4 Smart Utility Network Standard. OSI Layer 1 (the physical layer) will augment 4957.100 by adding support for additional regional frequencies and data rates ranging from 50 kpbs; to 300 kpbs. OSI Layer 2 will support network discovery and joining plus link layer security provisioning (not currently supported in 4957.200). Additionally, OSI Layer 2 will retain support for Layer 2 routing from 4957.210. OSI Layer 3 will be enhanced through addition of Layer 3 routing. The final work product is intended to align with the Wi-SUN Field Area Network (FAN) technical profile specification, which is based on open Standards from TIA, IEEE and IETF.
