Speakers
Data center network infrastructure is set to undergo a major transformation to meet the needs of continuously growing data traffic while supporting the IoT and the advent of 5G networks. This presentation will provide an overview of data center design, the changes in the upcoming revision of ANSI/TIA-942 Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers, and review use cases in the implementation of ANSI/TIA-942. This standard is produced by the produced by TIA's TR-42 Committee on Telecommunications Cabling Systems.
Audience: Includes data center operators/owners and designers, project managers, certified internal and external auditors, certified design consultants, architects, engineering firms, installers, end users and manufacturers.

With more than 25 years of experience, he has a talent for finding creative solutions for clients with challenging budgets and smaller data centers. He especially enjoys applying his skills for the benefit of public school districts. A well-respected figure in the industry, Glenn sits on multiple national engineering standards committees. He is an active participant in the Telecommunications Industry Association committee on educational spaces, currently working on the data center standard that is in process of revision. He received the ANSI meritorious service award in 2016, and has been recognized by Cabling & Installation Magazine as one of the “Nation’s Top 20 Industry Contributors over the Past 20 Years.” Outside of his professional work, Glenn has organized volunteer efforts to bring cable and infrastructure to underserved schools, and personally handled the design, configuration, and installation management of a local area network for a Catholic school in his area.
About TIA's TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Committee
TIA's TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Committee develops and maintains voluntary telecommunications standards for telecommunications cabling infrastructure in user-owned buildings, such as commercial buildings, residential buildings, homes, data centers and industrial buildings. The generic cabling topologies, design, distances and outlet configurations as well as specifics for these locations are addressed.
TR-42 is comprised of one parent committee and 11 subcommittees that cover requirements for copper and optical fiber cabling components (such as cables, connectors and cable assemblies), installation, and field testing, in addition to the administration, pathways and spaces to support the cabling. Over 90 companies from 13 countries (Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States) participate in TR-42 standards development.

ANSI/TIA-942 Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard
The ANSI/TIA-942 Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers is developed by the TR-42.1 Generic and Premises Cabling Subcommittee. TR-42.1 develops and maintains cabling standards for generic customer-owned telecommunications networks. These standards are intended to specify open systems designed to support a wide variety of voice, data, video, and other low voltage, power-limited applications. TR-42.1 also develops and maintains telecommunications cabling standards for premises networks such as commercial buildings, data centers, building automation, etc. This Subcommittee specifies cabling system topology, architecture, design, installation, testing and performance requirements.
