TIA applauded the Federal Communications Commission’s plan to consider revising its regulations to increase consumers’ access to in-flight mobile broadband.

TIA today urged the expansion of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Information Technology Agreement (ITA). TIA is part of a broad coalition of high-tech trade associations and companies currently in Geneva, Switzerland for the final round of negotiations to expand and update product coverage of the ITA by the end of this year.

TIA and the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), the Association for Competitive Technology (ACT), and the Continua Health Alliance, today announced their joint letter encouraging Congress to realize the full potential of enhanced patient-generated health data (PGHD) in advancing the American health care system. The letter was originally submitted to House Ways & Means and Senate Finance Committees on November 12.

TIA announced that the TR-42.1 Engineering Subcommittee on Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling has issued a call for interest in the development of the ANSI/TIA-862-B document titled "Structured Cabling Infrastructure Standard for Intelligent Building Systems."

TIA commended the confirmation of Tom Wheeler to chair the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Michael O’Rielly as FCC Commissioner.

TIA will host a special workshop focused on the transition to fifth generation (5G) mobile networks. The TIA workshop, “Beyond 2020: A Vision of 5G Networks,” will take place Thursday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be held at TIA’s headquarters (1320 N. Courthouse Rd., Suite 200 in Arlington).

TIA sent a letter urging the Senate Communications Subcommittee to take further actions to support broadband adoption. In advance of a subcommittee hearing today, TIA cited the United States’ declining standing among developed nations in broadband deployment and the marketplace transformation caused by the ongoing IP transition.
